What is needed to drive VMS using SuperVision?
The many factors mentioned below will determine the minimum system requirements
needed to run SuperVision on any standard PC.
Processor
A computer running SuperVision should have a processor that will adequately handle the
current connectivity, as well as anticipated future expansion.
- Recommended: At least a 233 MHZ Pentium®, Pentium II®, Pentium III® or
Pentium IV® processor.
Hard Drive
The number of connections, history log size and remote activity will determine the size of
the hard drive.
- Recommended: A minimum two-gigabyte hard drive.
Random Access Memory (RAM)
The available RAM determines, in part, the speed of the computer.
- Minimum: 48 MB of memory.
- Recommended: 128 MB or greater of memory.
Your PC should also include:
- 1.44 MB Floppy Drive / CD-ROM Drive
- Standard PC Keyboard
- Mouse
- Microsoft® Windows® NT 4.0 Operating System
- Serial Port
- Minimum 28.8 Modem
SuperVision can monitor up to nine (9) local 3270 (COAX) connections. Up to four (4) of the
connections may be connected to ISA cards with the remainder connected to PCI cards.
For Local 3270 COAX connectivity, SecureAgent Software recommends you select one of
the following.
- Attachmate® ISA Advanced 3270 Emulation Card
- Attachmate® IRMA 3270 PCI Adapter -- Rev. B+
- IBM® 3270 Emulation Card
- IBM® 3270 PCI Card (Model 3270-05J4401)
- These hardware cards ARE NOT required for remotely connected 3270 sessions.
For each 3270 connection, it is necessary to run a standard coaxial cable from the 3x74
or 3276 control unit to the 3270 adapter installed in the SuperVision PC. SuperVision
supports the following 3270 models :
- Model 2 (24x80)
- Model 3 (32x80)
- Model 4 (43x80)
- Model 5 (27x132)
- These hardware cards ARE NOT required for remotely-connected 3270 sessions.
